Montreal Beaches Are Perfect for Swimming, Picnicking & Sailing

Though many pictures and postcards you may have seen of Montreal may showcase the fantastic city as a majestic winter wonderland, you should not forget to bring your suntan lotion if you’re planning a trip this summer! The fact is that Montreal is actually home to some of the most enjoyable summer beaches that any city could offer. Here is a quick guide to the best Montreal beaches that are within city limits to help you plan your summer activities!

Clock Tower Beach

As the newest of Montreal’s beaches, you’ll find the Old Port of Montreal’s urban beach easily accessible at the foot of the historic district’s famous Clock tower. The Clock Tower Beach is unique in that it offers both a great meet up spot as well as a vacation atmosphere. Catch up with friends at the beach bar or burn a Sunday on its fine sand, chairs, parasols and refreshing mist stations with the city backdrop as a view. The beach is swim-free however.

May 31 to June 20, 2014: Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm

June 21 to September 1, 2014: Every day from 11am to 5pm

Montreal Beach Plage Doré At Parc Jean Drapeau

Don’t have a car or want to burn gas to get to the beach? No problem. You’ll find the beautiful white sand beaches of Parc Jean Drapeau via the yellow line on the city Metro just 5 minutes from Downtown. Enjoy a plethora of activities on the water as you’ll have your pick of renting sailboats, canoes, kayaks and pedal boats. Whether you pack lunch or are in too much of a rush, do not sweat; there is an onsite restaurant as well as shaded picnic tables.

Open June 14, 2014 to September 1.

Cap St. Jacques Nature Park

If you looking for respite from the urban hustle and bustle without really leaving the city, then the picturesque silver shored beaches set in the heart of the Cap-Saint-Jacques Nature Park (Montreal’s largest park) will give you the natural setting you are looking for. Just 45 minutes away by subway, you will get the best of Montreal’s natural beauty without traveling too far from home.

Open June 8 to August 25.
